Glenn’s story - As he looks around his office for the last time, he can’t help but wonder just exactly how many hours he spent in this room. How many dinners he missed, games he was late to, recitals he wasn’t even told about.
But he is making things right going forward. He had a slight heart attack scare last year, and he saw the lopsided priorities of his life. What was the life he had constructed giving back to him? Heartburn and back aches?
It took him a whole year to offload his responsibilities, but he told his wife he could do it. And now that day has come.
Sheila is waiting for him outside the office in the RV they bought last month. They have it all packed and ready to go. Until Glenn can get a better handle on how to maneuver this beast, Sheila is going to do the majority of the driving.
They are headed to the Pacific Northwest where two of his kids and their grandkids live. They haven’t been able to see them as much as they would have wanted to because of Glenn’s work, but now things are different.
It will take them 9 days to get there since they will stop in the small towns and do all the touristy stuff Glenn and Sheila have never taken the time to do. Then they will spend 3 weeks reconnecting with the kids and building relationships with the grandkids. Or at least Glenn will. Sheila has done such a good job keeping up with all the things going on in both kids’ lives.
Oh, Glenn has some work to do. He can’t go backwards, but he can make changes to ensure the future is meaningful for all of his relationships. And it starts now.
